The Tea
Designing a nursery means combining style with the perfect dose of playfulness. Many designers, including myself, believe that nursery decor should create a peaceful spot for your baby to play, sleep, and grow. As a result, many of my clients have witnessed their babies to be happier and more at ease with the right decor in their nursery. And so, as you prepare for the arrival of your little one, nursery decor for your baby’s happiness should absolutely be prioritized. Below we’ll be outlining exactly how you can set up a nursery that benefits both you and your baby.

How To Set Up A Nursery That Benefits Your Baby & You
Play Around With Paint
Nurseries are fantastic places to play around with colors. Be sure to keep the palette soothing and calm to soothe your baby — pale blues, greens, and other pastels work great in this regard. You can still add touches of bold and vivid colors as long as they are incorporated in calculated amounts.
Nursery decor has a license to be fun, so you can also curate patterns and murals. If you’re not much of a painter, you can always incorporate patterned wallpaper onto one of the walls. If you do want to let your creative juices flow, you can do it yourself with the help of paint and masking tape.
Display Books
Displaying books on designated shelving encourages reading moments with your baby while also doubling as decor. Simply mount shelves onto the nursery’s walls — I prefer choosing the wall against the crib for this purpose. Display hardcover books openly and facing outwards to showcase their beautiful artwork (and stimulate your baby’s visual senses). As your child grows, they’ll be able to choose the book they wish to read each night to build healthy reading habits.
Personalize The Space
Personalize your baby’s nursery even when they’re little. One fun way is displaying their initials (or entire names) on one of the walls. From solid, wooden letters to letter decals, there are multiple options to choose from. They offer an easy way to add a personal touch to the nursery. Additionally, they’re easy to upgrade if a new baby joins the room.
Pair Wooden Flooring With A Rug
It’s inevitable for a baby’s nursery to get messy. Sticking to wooden flooring makes it a tad bit easier to tidy up any messes and keep the space clean. If you wish to soften the space underfoot, you can always add a fun rug. However, be sure to keep it baby-safe. You don’t want your crawling baby to pull out handfuls of fur from the rug!
Consider A Baby Playpen
In addition to the aesthetics, you’ll want to incorporate nursery decor for your baby’s happiness. And babies love one thing — quality playtime. If you don’t have a designated play area in your home, consider investing in a playpen for your baby’s nursery. Choose one that complements the color scheme of the nursery and let your baby have fun in their personal space!
Invest In A Fun Light
Incorporate a timeless lighting fixture into your baby’s room. Whether you opt for a whimsical pendant light or a sleek rattan chandelier, a fun light can instantly add to the aesthetics of your baby’s nursery while also providing illumination.
Choose Multifunctional Furniture
When it comes to choosing furniture, you’ll want comfortable pieces that can tend to all of your baby’s needs. A changing table is a must to incorporate in your nursery. Look for one with a comfortable surface on top, and plenty of drawers for storage underneath. Try to avoid a table with open shelving, as this can create an impression of clutter.
Turn this corner into a happy, cheerful spot by accessorizing it. For example, frame it with a fun gallery wall paired with a plush animal mount.
Diffuse Essential Oils
Essential oils help calm the mind and promote relaxation while strengthening your baby’s immune system. But, given the potency of certain essential oils, make sure you’re choosing baby-safe options. Calm blends of essential oils are immune boosters and sleep enhancers.
The Pour
As you welcome your little one into this world, it’s easy to panic while setting up their space. But with the right planning, you can set up a nursery that benefits you and your baby while also looking visually aesthetic. You can always upgrade the decor as your baby grows — or as you welcome a new one into the space!
